TPLNG Outlook – South America Imports: You never can tell!
A few years ago Argentina, Brazil and Chile looked as though they would each import 5-10Mtpa by 2020 on the back of economic growth, gas to power drives and fast track FSRUs. The “ABC” markets are now struggling with weak economies. The prospect of domestic gas production in Argentina and Brazil keeps the countries buying short term. Brazil is even more uncertain due to the variability of its demand with rainfall. Only Chile has signed long term deals, all else if bought spot.
Sellers need to react quickly to opportunities and disappointments and be ultra flexible. Will new spot USLNG provide that flexibility and enable these markets to grow?
